There were several shock developments throughout the book that kept the story suitably rolling and the double twist at the end really packed a punch. Told in parallel timeframes, from grown up Maggie’s point of view as well as her dad’s when she was just five, this ever-unfurling story made use of some brilliant haunted house tropes and some good old fashion ghost stories. Pintip Dunn has a knack for coming up with young adult science fiction stories that are interesting and creative but are not hardcore science fiction so they appeal to a wider readership that prefer scifi-lite, so to speak. But how can I play chess with someone who already knows the outcome of my every move? Someone so filled with malice they’ve lost all hope in humanity? Well, I’ll just have to find a way-because now they’ve drawn a target on the only boy I’ve ever loved…. Because I’m starting to realize no one is telling the truth. In a race against the clock, I not only have to figure out his identity, but I’ll have to outwit a voice from the future telling me to kill him. I loved that the author was focused on showing a different face to fame, and that it portrayed accurately how lonely and hard a celebrity’s life could sometimes be. It’s so easy to see what’s coming next, but it is still oh so enjoyable to attest. The only downside to the plot is that once all the elements are put into play, its development is too predictable. It captured marvellously the hell celebrities and public people go through with paparazzi, it’s just awful. I would die if a movie was set in a particular place just so the star could be near me! It was great that the story wasn’t only focused on the romance part, but it also has an intricate subplot that I wasn’t expecting. Plus, I can’t help to gush over Graham’s absolutely romantic grand gesture. ![]() This plot is every teenage girl dreams come true! Who didn’t dream about dating a superstar back in the time? The pace is set perfectly to portray a serial killer slowly losing it all while also showing how a detective can be so resourceful in order to catch him. The novel “Mr Mercedes” is perfect for that, while being fictional, it is absolutely brilliant.ĭuring a time when Stephen King was obsessed with true crime, he has shown how truly interesting and brutal it can be. ![]() ![]() Something that peaks a lot of people’s interest is true crime, and serial killers. ![]() |
